Central Afghanistan

The mountains of Central Afghanistan remain the Hazara's protectorate. Years of civil war forced the Hazara to leave their valley homes and hide out in the upper reaches of these Hindu Kush Mountains. But it is a new day in Afghanistan. For the first time the Hazara have some hope of representation in the fledgling government, but the current peace is fragile. Many believe that if the UN peace keepers leave, the Hazara and other minority groups will once again be the target of ethnic violence.
